Burn, Baby Burn
This was the year we waited for and our grant for a prescribed burn came through. Joe Phluger of Lone Star Forestry and his crew came out to install fire breaks and burn on May 3, 2023. Some areas burned better than others, but overall the underbrush was cleared out. The sound of the fire was peaceful as the burn was controlled throughout the property. We went on to have an incredibly hot and dry summer, and it gave us comfort that we burned in the rainy season earlier in the year. We couldn’t do the clearing after the burn due to the dry conditions that came on quickly and resulted in a fire ban that lasted most of the year. Falling dead trees post bush-hog Late December 2023
